You might have better luck looking for two separate flights. No doubt you can find a cheap one to London. Then you can find a cheap one from London to Oslo

This of course depends on when you want to fly. I found the following options for well under $1000 flying roundtrip mid-week in February (I chose dates at random and ended up with Wed 18 Feb / Tue 3 Mar): Continental (via Newark)... $783 Northwest (via Amsterdam)... $841 KLM (via Amsterdam)... $844 Lufthansa (via Frankfurt)... $847 Air France (via Paris)... $916 SAS (via Chicago & Copenhagen)... $964 [taxes/fees included, all listed on Orbitz] Unfortunately, if you want to fly on a weekend in September, it looks like $1008 is probably the best price you're going to find: $1008 roundtrip on Lufthansa/SAS flying Fri 19 Sep and returning Sun 28 Sep, connecting in Frankfurt: LH487, SK3644 / SK4755, LH 486 listed on Vayama. Another option you might consider is using a flexible search to find cheap flights to one of the European gateway cities (esp. London or Frankfurt) and then using http://www.skyscanner.net to search the European low-cost airlines (i.e. RyanAir, Sterling, Norwegian, etc) to find an inexpensive connection to Oslo. Just keep in mind that the discount airlines often have very low baggage limits and you may have to switch airports, since the low-cost airlines usually fly to a city's smaller airports. (FYI - Sterling and Norwegian fly to OSL, but RyanAir flies to Torp, which is a 2-hour bus ride from Oslo.)
