Standby is NOT a cheaper fare anymore. Most companies don't even sell standby tickets anymore. The usual way to get them is to either be a dependent or employee of an airline, have a buddy pass, or to already have bought a full priced ticket and just wanting to change the day you fly. The only time you get a bargain is if you volunteered to give up your seat on an overcrowded flight and they upgraded you to first or business class when putting you on standby for the next flight. Here is how standby works though: I always call about a week ahead of the date I want to fly to check the occupancy and let them know I plan on flying on that date (many airlines like to e notified in advance when an employee or dependent plans to fly). I also call back the date of the flight to make sure it still looks okay (I don't want to get to the airport, wait, and then be told it's full). The day of the flight, you have to get to the airport at least an hour earlier than normal because they put your name down on a stand-by list which is first come first serve, per say. There IS an order of priority, such as crew members on a schedule first, bumped passengers or passengers who gave up their seats from a different flight second, crew members and dependents not on business next, those with their airline sky mile accounts, people with buddy passes, etc. There are no seats that are set aside specifically for employees or their dependents. While you wait, I suggest you go look around or bring a book to read or something to do. After they do all their upgrades, seat change requests, and board all the passengers with normal fare tickets for that day, they will start to call out the names of stand-by passengers. Here's the thing to be wary of: if the flight is full, you don't get a seat, so, like I said, it's always best to call a day ahead and find out how full they expect the flight to be and to give them advance notice that you DO expect to go on the flight for that day. Here are some tips for cheaper travel though: *Sometimes the internet is cheaper, sometimes the phone operators are cheaper, and sometimes travel agents are cheaper. Check out all three to make sure you get the best deal. *Choose the same airline for all legs of your itinerary whenever possible so you can take advantage of all connecting and round-trip airfares. *Round-trip airfare is always cheaper than one-way air fare. *Try to fly on the least popular days: Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday. *Remember that Saturday night stays are usually required for most bargain airfares. *Try to select the least popular flight times: mid-morning or late evening. *Check with discount airlines for cheaper fares. *Try to book as far in advance as possible. Generally try to purchase your tickets at least 21 days in advance of departure. Many airlines also have specials requiring three-, seven- or 14-day advance purchase. *In general, the cheapest airfares are available in the spring and summer. *If you travel around the holidays, book your departure and return flights a day or more before and after peak travel dates. If you're flexible, you might benefit by waiting until the last minute to book your flight because major carriers often run special sales. These sales, however, often have a long list of rules, restrictions and blackout dates. *Consider booking tickets that come with restrictions because they also come with a cheaper price tag. *Consider using alternate airports near your desired airport. The extra drive can save you hundreds of dollars. *Be as flexible as possible with your dates. Yes.

Now, now. Let's not "profile"......isn't that what the libs like to say? Maybe he was upset at something a filght attendant did. Or maybe he didn't like where he was seated. It must have been our fault. Extra screening? How about banning totally?
3 :
No, anyone but a Muslim!
4 :
Of course they should. Ain't going to happen in PC America though. We're too busy trying to convince everyone that Islam is a beautiful, peaceful faith.
5 :
It would be common sense. But common sense is not so common these days.

WASHINGTON -- A passenger aboard a jet airliner on its way from Amsterdam to Detroit was subdued after igniting what appeared to be fireworks, an airline spokeswoman told AFP Friday. 7 :
I heard he was a Republican Muslim.
8 :
no I think they should continue to hand search 89 yr old white granny in a wheelchair and let Akmed walk right on through.
9 :
no they should not be allowed at airports to start with
10 :
Yes, for the safety of the rest of the flying community.
11 :
and what about the christians that murder doctors and molest little kids? should we assume all christians are that way? This is a terrorist issue not a muslim one, stop dragging religon into it. EDIT: they were fireworks.. Good Lord get your facts straight..
12 :
*snort* big surprise. NOT. yes, they absolutely should be profiled and undergo extra screenings. i almost think they ought to be banned from flying.
13 :
Careful the liberals will take this as profiling and report you but yes it should be done

YEP...and it is funny...I was watching CNN on representatives in congress on Dec 5th and a MUSLIM was talking about how we are using being politically correct to disrupt their lives. We are not respecting them as individuals and appropriateness is not being addressed to them. RIGHT! What do you expect from having a MUSLIM leader that goes around the world kissing butt of other MUSLIMS and being disrespected by them...and then telling CHINA , KOREA and SAUDI ARABIA we are no longer a Christian Nation but a MUSLIM ONE! What do you expect when you get a leader that says in his book... 'Audacity of Hope', “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction what better place for the Muslins to control our country, than in the office of the President of USA.” What do you expect from a MUSLIM leader that gives TWO HIGH SECURITY JOBS in Homeland security to his SYRIAN Muslim friends...and who has a serial killer in his transition team in homeland security switched to FT HOOD? He won't do anything.....he WANTS THINGS TO HAPPEN NOW...so AMERICA will join him in fear to protect him....... It is the only thing that will save him. Dems are doomed. They are jumping ship like drowning rats....11senators are not running for re election and one jumped parties on Dec 22....and another is talking about it in Jan. COWARDS! Something is wrong when the dems are jumping ship! Lowest approval rating...senators jumping ship .....country in bad shape. THEY ARE NOT TELLING YOU EVERYTHING..... Oh...and as promised by the world..which bozo ignored FOUR TIMES....yesterday CHINA shut off the money machine...no more loans. We cannot be trusted! So that 1 billion dollars a day is going to HURT isn't it? Let's see how you handle the one truth bozo promised last year...the deepest double dip recession of all time this next year!

So what? Stalin, Hitler and Bush all were and are Christians. They killed tens of millions of people.
16 :
Yes, they should but we all know Obama wouldn't dare to offend his Muslim brothers. Obama would rather have grandma go through extra security.
17 :
PC police says don't be so hard on Obama's brother's. You wouldn't want to offend Obama's special people.
18 :
No. The only reason I disagree is because it will probably put in the minds of security guards that the only people they should worry about are Muslims and that they will generally ignore non-Muslims, creating a huge security risk.
19 :
Only if you fundies are not allowed near any health clinic that provides family planing services.
20 :
Most Muslims are not terrorists. But, most terrorists are Muslims. P.S. While Stalin, Hitler, and Bush may have been Christians (and in some cases, only nominally), they did not kill in the name of Christianity. The Muslim terrorists kill in the name of their religion.
21 :
Only if we put extra effort searching all rural whites for Meth, or scrutinize all Italians to better combat organized crime. Muslims come in all races from blond with blue eyes to nearly black skin and brown eyes. Unless they wear a T-shirt or sweatshirt that says "Muslim Bomber" how would anybody know any person was a muslim to be subject to extra screening? Did anybody know this terrorist was Muslim until he was caught? It is not be reported that anybody did. We have watch lists, we have screening officers, we have spies, counterintelligence, and spent billions of dollars spent on law enforcement technology. I would look into if we are making the best use of our resources. It is being reported that this individual was on a watch list and apparently there was a reason for security personnel to believe he was low risk. Obviously somebody made a mistake, and that should not happen again.
22 :
Yes, profile the heck out of them.
23 :
Forget the screenings, just ban muslims from flights altogether. They can ride a camel or a flying carpet.
24 :
yes but he was peaceful so it's ok according to Dems
25 :
One problem with profiling is it misses criticial. info. ISRAELIS TEACHING AMERICANS security, say not to profile. A prime example they give is, an Irish woman was stopped, questioned, & giving nervous clues. Turned out her Jordanian boyfriend had given her a package & told her not to open it. ...it was the self-opening kind, & thankfully security person hadn't been profiling. It can also mean extra embarassment & hassle for people who aren't involved in anything. You're not going to visually detect Muslims as much as "near & middle easterners." So some common sense needs to be used when looking at folks. Clues like reading faces while asking lots of questions before going any further in the hassling are the best safeguards.
26 :
No, just the terrorists.

How long is the flight from Detroit, Michigan to Maldives

How long is the flight from Detroit, Michigan to Maldives?

There are no nonstop flights between DTW and MLE, meaning that you'd have to connect at least once (and probably twice) in order to get between the two airports. The total time to make this trip would, therefore, depend upon the length of the flights you have to make in order to complete the journey, as well as the length of the layovers you'd have to make in order to get from plane to plane. As an example, sample itineraries pulled from orbitz.com indicate that flying between DTW and MLE, with stops in Amsterdam and Dubai to change planes, would require total travel time of approximately 25 hours. Of this time, approximately 18.5 hours are specifically devoted to travel -- the remaining time is layover time both in AMS and DXB. The actual travel time for any specific itinerary will vary based upon where the layovers are, how long they are, and how long it takes to travel between these cities.

Why didn't you look this up yourself? Any travel consolidator website, like Travelosity, Orbitz, ect., would have given you this information. Delta, and Northwest are the only airlines that fly direct from Detroit to Memphis. It's a two hour flight.
