Yes. He started in Lagos on Christmas eve and connected in Amsterdam on Christmas day. It's easier to get on an international flight in Nigeria so I'm guessing that he got on with the explosives there (I don't know). I don't know what security measures were taken in Amsterdam if any. He had enough PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) to blow a big hole in the side of the airplane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Airlines_Flight_253 "Mutallab did not undergo secondary security screening at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam before boarding his flight for the U.S." http://www.theroot.com/views/new-terror-threat

Yes On Christmas day a Nigerian man who was on a plane coming from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan was planning to explode the plane. The man was 23 year old Umar, who is an Al-Qaeda member. Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for it.
